Note: This router only works with EV-DO PC cards or EV-DO USB phones. If you are looking for a 3G router that will do all data signals like EV-DO, HSDPA, EDGE, CDMA, GPRS, etc, check out our 3G Phoebus, and the advanced security of the MB8000 3G router.
Putting an entire team on a high speed EV-DO plan has never been so economical. Take a single EV-DO data card and with this router you have an instant mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. Your one unlimited data plan from your cell provider turns into multiple 802.11b/g signals for many.
Update:
The KR1 now supports more EVDO Rev A devices with a firmware upgrade you can download here. Simply upload RK1010.bix to your KR1 for maximum compatibility. Click here for further instructions.
What Is EV-DO?
EV-DO, an acronym for Evolution-Data Optimized, is a latter-generation data signal that is now commonly found coming from most cell towers. 1xEV-DO, for instance, is the first revision standard of the signal and is considered 3rd Generation for data signals (aka 3G). It can typically achieve DSL data transfer speeds.
Once you have purchased a data plan from a carrier like Sprint, Verizon, or Alltel, you simply take the data PCMCIA card, or "Air Data" card, and slide it into the Kyocera KR1 3G Mobile Router. The router translates the EV-DO signal and broadcasts it in the form of an 802.11b/g signal that anyone with a Wi-Fi device can use (as long as your custom settings allows them to).
Cards or Phones Welcome
Not only can you use your data card with this router, you can hook up your USB EV-DO phone. Share your mobile data signal with others and yourself in the form of 802.11b/g Wi-Fi using your smart phone.
How This Router Works
The router simply uses your EV-DO card or phone as a modem to receive the EV-DO signal. It takes the signal and translates it to the standard 802.11g signal and broadcasts it.
Car Adapter Included
The car power adapter is included. Your new Wi-Fi hotspot will truly be mobile.
